Scouts UK has taken steps to make its program more accessible and welcoming to everyone, including minorities who may have never considered the program for their families. The design firm NotOnSunday has provided the association with a new identity that pulls on familiar traditions such as Scouting’s fleur-de-lis, but updates the mark and adds color to all applications.
Specific attributes of the new program include:
- The fleur-de-lis has been stripped back into a line drawing that works better in all applications.
- Previously, purple was the iconic Scouts UK brand color. Now, the shade has been brightened to violet, and the palette has been broadened to include color pairings that local Scouting groups can select from, enabling them to pick colors that match their own national colors.
- An open source font, Nunito Sans, was selected for the new system. A free downloadable font, the typeface is available for all members to use.
- NotOnSunday also created a templated grid system that helps members without design training to achieve success and consistency when they create their own flyers, posters, and more.
