• An Istituto Marangoni London student, Jamilya Orak, has created a remarkable new logo for Casa Italia, a new agency formed by the combination of the Embassy of Italy, the Italian Trade Agency, and the Italian Cultural Institute, located in Westminster, UK.

The design uses the shape of two conjoined keys—signifying unity and access—to recreate the form of Roman aqueducts. The circle mark of the London Underground highlights the point of connection. Together, the shapes effortlessly combine to communicate “dialogue, diplomacy and shared access to culture, creativity and exchange.”

• To celebrate the 125th anniversary of its founding, Whitechapel Gallery worked with design agency BBH Studios to create an unapologetically in-your-face new identity that combines contemporary and historic features: a British Art Nouveau-inspired serifed face placed in tandem with maximalist face Whitechapel Bold; various hand-writing styles parrying with historic artworks; and a bold and modern blue, white, and black palette framing both still and video imagery from the gallery’s contemporary art collection.
