The Portsmouth Historic Dockyards in Portsmouth, England, includes some truly remarkable old ships, including the HMS Warrior, HMS Victory, The Mary Rose, and HMS Alliance, but getting potential visitors excited about seeing a bunch of old stuff can be a challenge.

In creating a new brand for the Dockyards, design firm SomeOne inserted the word “ship” into much more contemporary and eye-catching phrases that cheekily bring the collection to life. Bold typography, a strong color palette, and illustrations that are interactive whether static or animated immediately capture the imagination.

“While the battle of Trafalgar may have occurred 220 years ago, and the Mary Rose was commissioned in 1510—the stories of what happened onboard are as visceral and compelling as ever,” says Simon Manchipp, founding partner at SomeOne, in a Creativebloq article. “We saw first-time visitors’ jaws drop—and heard what they said. So we used their language to form a provocative and contemporary new campaign.”
