When The Belfry Hotel & Resort was completing a multi-million-dollar expansion, management knew the time was right for a rebrand. Design agency Thissaway, which had worked with the client for about 15 years, undertook research on what The Belfry meant to customers. They discovered that “guests don’t simply visit The Belfry. They mark moments and milestones there.”

That caused the designers to consider what a belfry actually is: a home for a bell. From the Thissaway website, “[bells] call people together, mark the passing of time, announce celebrations, signal beginnings. They are, in the most literal sense, instruments for marking moments.”

From that point, the designers were able to build an identity around everything a bell represented: its brass/shiny surface, its heritage, its sound, its ability to bring people together, and even the typography that might be inscribed on a bell.
