Keukenhof Spring Garden and Castle in The Netherlands has hosted a spring festival and flower show since 1949 that today welcomes thousands of visitors. The flower garden is the largest of its kind in the world, and having a castle as a centerpiece makes the site even more iconic.
Design firm thonik created a new identity for the Keukenhof organization, just in time for this year’s spring show. The designers were asked to create a dual identity that recognized both the spring gardens and the castle.
Their solution, inspired by the grid-like masonry of the castle buildings, was two distinct but clearly related marks. A tulip-shaped design clearly identified the gardens, while a heraldic shield represents the castle. The same grid design lives in each design, as does vibrant color.
“With our refreshed visual identity, we now have a style that truly reflects everything Keukenhof represents: a beautiful estate steeped in history, and a spring garden that brings people from around the world together,” says Sandra Bechtholt, general director of Keukenhof. “We are ready for the next decade, with an identity that honors our roots while showing that we continue to grow and innovate.”
