The simplification of the logo as well as the restaurants’ interior updo have turned out to be more than a grease fire in a cast-iron pan: the company’s shares have dropped almost $100 million in value since the redesign’s introduction.

• News network MSNBC has broken away from NBC Universal and is now MS NOW, an acronym for My Source News Opinion World. According to a USA Today article, NBC Universal, along with other brands including USA Network, Syfy, CNBC, Golf Channel, GolfNow, and SportsEngine, will become part of a new media company called VERSANT later this year.
The new MS NOW logo has a flag-like, patriotic feel, but it’s largely a generic typographic design. The lockup has plenty of detractors who note that ditching the historic peacock logo and three-tone sonic logo could be disastrous. The new logo could be misinterpreted to represent Microsoft or multiple sclerosis or even be read as MSNOW, which could suggest the act of snowing someone—definitely not the impression a news organization wants to make.
