Bruce Mau Design has continued its work with The National Ballet of Canada for the organization’s 75th anniversary season in 2026–27.
In 2024, BMD developed a new identity for the company that literally opened space for those who did not yet appreciate ballet to come in. Wide spaces are left in the wordmark, and provocative questions like, “What would you do for love?” inspired the viewer to enter those spaces, answer the question, and relate with the stories that ballets tell.
For the 75th anniversary, BMD positioned a “75 as a narrative device, integrating it into the core logo system and visual language…. Rather than sitting apart from the brand, the anniversary becomes part of its ongoing evolution,” according to a company release. The result is a dramatic layering that mimics the both graceful and bold shapes that dancers and dances create.
