Threads’ ambiguous new logo looks like the @ symbol, but it’s coiled design gives that familiar symbol a new twist. Its freehand nature makes it feel friendly and human. But what does it actually mean or represent?
Of course, the design could represent a literal curling thread. A New York Times article offers some additional ideas. “Online, people have speculated that the logo represents the letter G, the number 6 or letters of the Tamil and Malayalam alphabets. An edited image of Homer Simpson is circulating in which the character’s ear has been replaced by the logo. Others have detected similarities to a snippet of thread or a curly piece of hair.”
