Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center’s new identity is anchored in an art installation created by Buffalo, N.Y., graphic artist Shasti O’Leary Soudant, herself a cancer survivor.
Soudant created “Wish Field,” an installation for the entrance of the Center. It is a collection of bronze flower-like bursts that project from the walls, much like a dandelion head. She was inspired by a childhood memory, of sitting in a field of dandelions with her mother and making a wish as she blew away the seedy, wispy strands of a flower head. She adapted the sculpture’s core design to create the Center’s new identity in blue and white, with seeds taking flight in a moment of hope. The facility’s new motto, “Unleashing the healing power of hope,” mirrors the design’s core belief.
