Rolls-Royce Reasserts Authority

Rolls-Royce was founded in 1906 by Charles Rolls and Henry Royce as a motorcar manufacturer. Today, the company is also well-known for engineering, civil and defense aerospace, power systems, and nuclear technology. Pentagram has created a refreshed identity for Rolls-Royce which modernizes the brand while keeping it firmly attached to its heritage.

The iconic double R was retained, but the external wordmark was removed. Pentagram redrew the letterforms, creating bolder, cleaner shapes that display better in all applications, especially smaller ones. The new letter designs provided inspiration for a new five weight, eight style, custom, sans serif typeface called Rolls-Royce Pioneer that is used in all company marketing and publications.
