Order and Method in Identity

Agatha Christie Limited (ACL), which manages rights to the author’s work, has a delightfully subtle new identity, courtesy of StudioSutherl&, much in keeping with the nature of mystery. On its face, the design is a melding of the letters “a” and “c.” But a second look reveals a question mark, and like a Christie novel, the revelations keep unrolling from there.

The designers then transformed the original mark into a series of six stamps that represent famous Christie characters, such as Hercule Poirot, Miss Marple, and Tommy and Tuppence. The clever combinations made from the commonplace question mark and exclamation point show an excellent use—in Poirot’s words—of “the little grey cells.”
