QR code company Beaconstac became Unicode in January 2024, and the company’s new identity—created by Koto—continues to grow.
A QR code is meant to seamlessly connect people to information, in effect, “stitching” them into a communication process. Koto took the notion of “stitching” literally in Unicode’s new branding: it created a cross-stitch-like graphic theme that can be used to create images, patterns, or typography.
The X theme also suggests the coarseness of digital art, the repetitive nature of coding, and the blocky nature of a QR code.
