Imagery and content supplier Shutterstock has undergone five pretty significant rebrands since its founding in 2003, the most recent completed by Lippincott in 2012. Originally a stock photo supplier, the company has expanded its offerings to include digital libraries of photos, videos, illustrations, and vector art, as well as AI capabilities and content production. It also announced a merger with Getty Images earlier this year.
Shutterstock’s new logo reflects the utter transformation of the company from a product supplier to a powerful story-builder and storytelling partner. All imagery related to cameras found in earlier logos, including the viewfinder-as-o used in the Lippincott design, are finally gone. The typography in the new wordmark is extremely simplified but still uses the “o” as a graphic device. A ripple design has been added around the shape, suggesting the catalytic effect of the company’s offerings.
