• Buc-ees, the American chain of mega-convenience stores and travel centers known for its beaver mascot and for suing any company who references anything beaver-related in its logo or name, is receiving some blow-back, thanks to TV host Jon Oliver and his “Buc-off” campaign. The parody now even has merch, and profits from it have already sent thousands of dollars to Hungry Free America.

The latest victim is Beaver’s Mini-Mart, which opened in Beavercreek, Ohio, in 2019. Not surprisingly, it has an illustrated beaver in its logo. Buc-ees started doing business in Ohio in April 2026 but nevertheless has gone after the mini-mart in court. Businesses in Beaverton and across the country are inserting beavers into their logos to sell parody products and fundraise to help the mini-mart with legal fees. (Visual: Creative Bloq.)

• Ellen Shapiro interviews partners Jan Wilker and Vera Yuan on their two-year collaboration to create an identity for Calder Gardens in Philadelphia and why their client was willing to be so patient.

“We try not to be fast and efficient,” Wilker explains. “There are so many entry points. We want to expand the experience, not contract it. The quality time you spend with the client, that’s the thing. The discussions should be flowing. That way, we have co-ownership with the client.”
