The Branch Museum of Design in Richmond, Va., has a dramatically new identity, created by MullenLowe Design Studio, that reflects not only the institution’s role as a home for design history, but also its actual home.

The museum is in a Tudor Revival mansion designed by John Russell Pope, who also designed the Jefferson Memorial. The new museum logo draws inspiration from Pope’s work.

From an Ad Age article on the project: “The new logo, built from Pope’s original blueprints, merges three sharp gables into a sculptural ‘B’ that doubles as a house when rotated. The design speaks to both the structure and symbolism: a nod to the museum as a living home for design. Its slightly off-center orientation suggests motion and reinterpretation, qualities that reflect Richmond’s creative energy and the museum’s commitment to questioning convention.”
