To celebrate Microsoft’s 50th birthday in April 2025, Koto created a campaign that highlights many aspects of Microsoft’s past branding, including the reviled/beloved Clippy, the rainbow butterfly, and a range of old logos and branding attributes. The anniversary campaign is not about technology, though: instead, Microsoft wanted to celebrate the innovative people who have created the company and its products.

From the Koto website: “‘Change needs makers’ celebrates not only five decades of human achievement, but also acts as a rallying cry for the next generation of innovators to build what’s next. The strategy comes to life through stories of pioneering products, historic breakthroughs, and human ingenuity.”

The campaign’s pixelated 3D “50” logo blends style and color attributes from Microsoft’s past. It’s a reminder of how far technology has come, but also of the possibilities that lie ahead.
