Berlin-based designer Daryn Roongrawewan’s vintage designs are inspired by items she collects, by nature, and even by her own tattoos. Logo designs should take inspiration from things that can be observed in the world, things that people recognize. These shapes carry a “warmth that people feel even if they can’t explain it,” she says.
In an It’s Nice That article, the designer explains how she created an identity for ecology-based design studio Padma. “‘Nature already holds the shape of letters. The curve of a leaf, the subtle twist of a stem. The initial P for Padma came from watching more than creating,’ she says. The final logo draws from the shapes and gestures of the purple sugar magnolia snap pea, paired with a customized wordmark that Daryn designed to mimic the nodes of the plant’s stem.”
