The U.S. version of the Kit Kat candy bar has a new logo, created by Sterling Brands, that is a bit retro and much cleaner. In the United States, the brand is licensed by Hershey; in other parts of the world, the brand is managed by Nestlé.

In the new design, the interior shading in the letters is gone, and letter-kerning is tighter. The ring around the wordmark has been streamlined, and its yellow tint is gone. The overall effect is cleaner and bolder, which should improve reproduction in fun-size applications.

The new lettering also plays into the brand’s “give me a break” tagline: the shape of the letters look like the break-off-able bars of the candy.
