The London Transport Museum, like many similar institutions, has a retail shop that supports the museum’s efforts. But museum managers felt that the shop and its offerings had become disjointed and did not tell the story of the museum. Kit Studio was brought in to create the missing links.
Fortunately, the designers had plenty of visual inspiration from London’s transport systems. From the design firm’s website: “From the tube map to eclectic ‘this way’ signage, illustrative arrows, moquette seat patterns and the iconic roundel logo, we had a wealth of original, historic and quintessentially ‘London’ design elements to work with.”
Familiar London Transport colors and the Johnston typeface were also selected to create even closer ties to the museum and its goals.
