Built on the strapline, “A thriving city for all,” the Dublin City Council has a new visual identity. The centerpiece logo for the new plan integrates the original Dublin crest and the River Liffey into a design that is much more flexible in all application sizes. The separated towers in the previous design are brought together, signaling unity.
The new plan tackled two specific challenges: language and accessibility.
• The council worked closely with Oifig an Choimisinéara Teanga to ensure that the refreshed brand meets all Irish language obligations for public bodies. The new identity pairs English with Irish language.
• To maximize legibility for people with visual impairments, the typeface Atkinson Hyperlegible Next was selected as the council’s primary typeface. Also, the identity uses a brighter color palette to provide better contrast and legibility.
