Tell us a little bit about yourself, who you are, your background, and your work…
As a child, I studied lacquer miniatures – painting on wood, drawing flower arrangements on jewelry box.
Then, after school, I began to study graphic design on my own and at the same time work in a printing house. I have a higher education in advertising.
I’m a self-taught designer. Before drawing my first logo, I was inspired by the works of logo design masters and studied various techniques and styles.
What was it that made you want to pursue a career in graphic design? What about this field were you most drawn to? What was your journey like?
After the birth of my first child, I decided to leave the office and become a freelancer, continuing to study graphic design trends. After a few projects in my portfolio I began to receive requests from clients for logo and identity design. Then my second daughter was born and I became firmly established
as a freelance mother.
What designers or creative minds influenced you growing up? Has this changed over the recent years? What types of style do you most admire?
I was always amazed by the work of the logo design masters of the second half of the last century. They draw such capacious and graphic signs that are, at the same time, filled with meanings.
I love looking through various logo archives of those times, such as Logomodernism, Logomuseum, logobook.com, etc. For example, an unsurpassed master – Stefan Kanchev and design studio Anagrama.
Among modern authors, I really like the style of Adam Anderson. Interesting graphic images inspire me with double meaning from Noma Bar.
Amazing linocut technique of Miloš Milovanović. I love the graphics of visual design of designers from Serbia New Garden Society and studio TRÜF.
How would you describe your design aesthetic? What makes your style stand out from other designers/design firms?
I mainly specialize in minimalist logos, I try to make them metaphorical. They are like rebuses, the meaning of which must be unraveled by the audience.
Minimum graphic component – maximum meaning. But it all depends on the specific project, its goals and objectives.
What hobbies or activities are you involved in outside of the design world?
I really love my job, it’s my hobby 😉 And My children are my main source of inspiration for creating new products. I enjoy spending free time with my family!
What is your design process like? Are there things that would surprise us in how you get your work done?
The most interesting and exciting thing about the design process is that you can find inspiration in the simplest and most ordinary things.
Some images and abstract signs even come to me in my dreams. Waking up, I’m just putting together a general concept.
It is as if someone from outer space is sending you signals, and you are simply broadcasting them on paper.
Why did you decide to join LogoLounge?
I joined logolounge.com because I really like the format of this mega-project a book of logos from all over the world. Friendly atmosphere and boundless inspiration!
I’m very glad to be a part of it!
What work or works are you most proud of and why? Did such designs come easier than others?
I can say that over ten years of working in branding, I have accumulated quite a large number of projects that I am proud of.
I especially love a logo design project for a company Max Christmas that sells handcrafted Christmas trees.
This project was quite difficult for me, and therefore the logo turned out to be very memorable and sincere!
This is the case when nature inspired me to create this logo, just as it inspires the creators of these beautiful Christmas trees. The metaphor was born by itself.
Can you tell us about a current project you are working on and how it is going?
Often projects are protected by NDA so I can’t talk about them, but not long ago I finished working on a logo project for a coffee shop in Kenya named Waitabit Coffee Collective. The peculiarity of this coffee establishment is that it is located in the open air in the garden. The name sounds like wait-a-bate,
but it is a bush with sticky round leaves. The logo depicts delicious coffee flowing over round leaves in the shape of cups. Several versions of the logo were created.
The crown of the composition is the W monogram. Several versions of the logo were developed – full, shortened and monogram, depending on the brand style carrier.
What are your personal and/or professional goals for the future?
I am considering several options for future development. For example, I am great in team work and would like to work in a Branding Agency.
In any case, I would like to continue doing what I love!
What life or career lessons do you wish you had learned years ago? What advice would you give to other designers just starting out in their careers?
Perhaps the most important thing I wanted to hear from authority figures many years ago is – Don’t waste your time, this resource cannot be replenished!
If you dream of becoming a graphic designer or somebody else, just start studying, don’t put it off.
Vita brevis ars longa! =) Improve your level of education. This applies not only to the field of graphic design. Get knowledge from books and inspiration from the things around you.
Life itself gives you signs!
