Created in 1965 by designer Gerald Lawrence Barney, the British Rail’s “double arrow” logo was introduced by the then-Labor government to brand a greatly modernized train network. Today, the current Labor government is bringing back the mark, with modification, as the brand for Great British Railways. The country is in the processes of re-nationalizing all train operators in the country.

Use of the Union Jack is meant to inspire patriotism in the same way the Olympic team from Great Britain does among citizens. This specific version of the double-arrow design previously represented British Rail International in 1965.
