The Japanese word kintsugi means “golden joinery” or “gold seams.” It also defined as the Japanese art of repairing pottery with gold: instead of throwing out a broken item, it is lovingly put back together and is more beautiful than it was before. Design Bridge and Partners used the concept and practice of kintsugi to create an identity for Gen-All, a charity that promotes building better relationships between all generations in order to improve society.

The organization’s new logo is simple but meaningful: set in Hepta Sans, the wordmark’s hyphen is gold and elongated, like the golden lines used to mend kintsugi pottery. The joinery metaphor is extended through photos of pottery that has been repaired through kintsugi, but the pieces being joined are from completely different time periods and cultural inspirations.
