Transit, From Prosaic to Profound

By Cathy Lane | Jan 16, 2019

Design news coming from Metro Atlanta’s transit system and SailGP.

  • Metro Atlanta’s recently renamed transit system, The ATL, has a new identity system that combines the symbols of a compass and a star. The pointer shape used to build the new logo is used in the wordmark to replace the letter A and in other graphics as well.

  • SailGP is a high-speed sailing competition in which competitors sail F50 wingsail catamarans that literally fly on top of the water. G.B.H. London has created a new identity for the sport, discarding pictorial representations of sails or watercraft. The new design cuts letters and graphics in half horizontally and shifts the split pieces so they are slightly offset from each other. This creates an effect like waves or a sharp cut through the water.
