Wikimedia has a new community-sourced sound identity that the organization calls “The Sound of All Human Knowledge.” It begins with the sound of pages turning, then rapid typing, and then a musical resolution. Thaddeus Osborn, a nuclear engineer by vocation and a music producer by avocation, created the mark.

Since the call for entries opened in September 2022, 3,200 submissions were received from 2,094 people in 135 countries. A surprising fact from the Wiki news release: “The sound logo will join a suite of more than 2,500 protected trademarks alongside the ‘Wikipedia’ and ‘Wikimedia’ community-designed visual logos.”
