The ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) has introduced a new visual identity created by the design firm Open, with a concise logo by typographer Tobias Frere-Jones. The new plan moves away from Statue of Liberty-related imagery the ACLU has relied on in the past, as it subtly suggested that the organization was primarily concerned with immigration rights. Today, the ACLU fights for marriage, reproductive, LGBT, voting, privacy, and many other rights, and it promotes citizen-based efforts as well.

The new logo, based on “red, everything, and blue,” is strong, solid, and tight, suggesting the attitude and teamwork needed in the ongoing struggle. Perceptive coverage of the complete project can be found at https://www.fastcodesign.com/90144513/the-aclus-design-guide-for-the-resistance.
