As reported here earlier this year, the city of Oslo, Norway, consulted with customer experience agency Creuna to whittle down the number of city government/agency-related logos from over 250 to just 1. In addition to greatly simplifying and strengthening the city's identity, the plan will save citizens at least $5 million each year.
The loss of individual logos, of course, did cause concern amongst some governmental offices. But the simple software that Creuna developed allows these offices to redevelop new and distinct identities that work within the overall brand. Attributes can be dialed up and down, which makes the finished products still look like part of the whole while giving each office the personality they sought.
