The muscular new plan heralds the reopening this fall of Lincoln Center’s David Geffen Hall. According to an Ogilvy release, the dramatically improved hall will “allow people to see, hear, and experience the NY Phil from every possible angle by inviting the audience to surround the orchestra, enabling people to have a more inclusive and ground-breaking connection to music. The new logo and visual identity reflect this while keeping New York at its heart.”

A three-sided frame references the actual shape of the district, which is formed by two wharfs that gut out into the water from a harbor’s edge. At this writing, the U-shape is used as a frame for art and photos in posters advertising performances. It will undoubtedly be played out in other identity pieces as it easily accommodates any shape or content.
