Old vs. New Logo

The United Kingdom has the world’s largest public art collection with 212,732 artworks by 38,370 artists displayed throughout 3,261 venues in England, Scotland, and Wales. Given the work’s geographic spread and sheer quantity, British citizens—who own the art—are largely unable to visit all of the collection or indeed even appreciate its scale.

Cards

The charity Art UK (previously known as the Public Catalogue Foundation) has now digitized much of the work so that anyone can enjoy the art in a digital space. Marina Willer and her team at Pentagram have renamed the charity and created a literally flexible identity that focuses on connectivity. From a Pentagram release: “It is flexible and elastic, indicating different points of access and ways of interpreting art. Each letter of the logotype is joined to another, reflecting how the public interacts with the Art UK website and the artworks within the collection.”
