Square Is Now Block

Square, the company that made the small, square payment dongle famous, is now called Block. The Square name will still be used for payment and banking system products, and Block will be the parent company name.

The new animated logo is a square that twists from side to side, displaying iridescent colors that represent the brands in the Block family, which also includes TIDAL and Cash App.

From a company release that explains the new identity: “[Block] has many associated meanings. Building blocks, neighbourhood blocks and their local businesses, communities coming together at block parties full of music, a blockchain, a section of code, and obstacles to overcome.”
