Seven Days Till Launch

Is it possible to create an entire brand identity in just one week?

Johnson Banks did just that for Oak National Academy, a collection of online resources created for suddenly quarantined students and teachers by other UK teachers who wanted to help. The new resource includes lesson plans for math, English, art, and languages. Teachers and students can use the material free for a year as a supplement or enhancement to their own distance learning plans.

A falling acorn was chosen by Johnson Banks as the central image for the Academy’s identity.

From the J-B website: “But it struck us that an acorn falling was an apt metaphor for how education works. As it falls, it releases seeds and renews. Just as the apple allegedly fell on Newton’s head, or the ‘penny drops’, we realized that the moment just before impact could be perfect. We quickly tested the idea in static and animated forms, developed a color palette and a clear typographic style, knowing that free fonts and accessibility would play a crucial role.”
