Jane Austen House Rebrand

Despite having written all of her novels about 19th-century life, Jane Austen’s popularity has never waned. Her stories have been adapted into movies, television programs, fan fiction, and—for her most ardent fans—a way of dealing with the world. It’s not surprising, then, that the 17th-century house where Austen spent the last 8 years of her life attracts tens of thousands of fans each year.

Pentagram has created a new identity for the house and museum that matches the author’s sass and modern spirit. The design is centered on a lettermark based on a cursive A found in an Austen letter from 1815: it gracefully now includes the author’s initials, J and A.

Further, a 12-sided stamp that contains the monogram and the name of the house was inspired by the 12-sided writing desk that Austen used. Color inspiration for the new system as actually found in original wallpapers and construction materials used in the house.
