“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” the new J. K. Rowling/Harry Potter film, has stumbled into an unexpected adventure: accusations of logo plagiarism.
In the new movie (which opens November 18), and on Pottermore (the all-things-Harry-Potter website), we learn about Ilvermorny, an American school of witchcraft and wizardry, and its four houses, Thunderbird, Pukwudgie, Horned Serpent, and Wampus. Thanks to the omniscient and ever-powerful Reddit, certain similarities between the house crests/logos and various Internet sources have become evident. Those first designs have since been altered substantially, and Warner Bros. is claiming that no harm was intended (although it would take an obliviate charm to keep anyone from noticing the original and obvious similarities).
