Dualing Identities

Design studio DutchScot has created a complex, illustration-based identity for a Chinese restaurant in Dubai. The concepts of duality and the Chinese zodiac are combined in a way that transports the restaurant guest from just “me” to “Shanghai Me,” which is the name of the restaurant.

“We wanted to stretch and play with the animal theme as much as we could without it becoming a confused concept,” DutchScot creative partner Jacob Vanderkar says in a Design Week article about his team’s use of animal patterning, body shapes, and mannerisms. “We like to think this is one of the little surprises along the way of the diner’s journey through the meal. It means they aren’t just seeing the same thing over and over again.”
