To a chorus of dismay equal in some ways to the reaction to merging metro–area itself, the new Auckland super–city logo has been revealed. Auckland's eight local councils are set to merge into a mega–city, with its own identity and flag.

The winning design, a stylised pohutakawa flower (shown in photo), was chosen from over 1500 entries in a public competition run by the Auckland Transition Agency.
